Director & Innovation Manager
Dr George Milis, PhD, is Director and Innovation Manager at PHOEBE Research and Innovation Ltd and EUROCY Innovations Ltd, the organisations that established EduSynergy as their combined vocational education and training centre. With more than twenty years of experience spanning artificial intelligence, intelligent control systems, software engineering, digital transformation, Internet of Things (IoT) platforms, smart water management, smart buildings, and European-funded innovation projects, George leads strategic innovation, research project development, technology commercialisation, and international collaborations that directly inform EduSynergy's training offer.
He holds a PhD in Computer Engineering from the University of Cyprus, specialising in semantically enhanced intelligent feedback control systems, an MSc in Advanced Computing (Artificial Intelligence) with Distinction from Imperial College London, and a Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. Before joining PHOEBE and EUROCY, Dr Milis worked as a Special Researcher at the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence, University of Cyprus, and as Project Manager and Senior ICT Consultant at European Dynamics S.A. (Greece), contributing to major European research and commercial ICT initiatives.
His expertise covers artificial intelligence, machine learning, semantic technologies, knowledge graphs, data analytics, natural language processing, decision-support systems, digital learning technologies, and intelligent monitoring and control of large-scale infrastructures. He has coordinated and contributed to numerous Horizon Europe, Horizon 2020, FP5/FP6, Erasmus+, Marie Curie, and nationally funded projects across sectors including water management, energy, smart cities, education, healthcare, public administration, and industrial innovation.
Dr Milis has authored many peer-reviewed scientific publications in areas such as IoT-enabled intelligent control systems, smart water networks, cyber-physical systems, semantic technologies, and artificial intelligence. He is an active member of IEEE, ETEK, TEE, and several innovation-focused organisations. In addition to his research and innovation activities, he is a frequent speaker at international conferences and professional events, having delivered more than 60 presentations, workshops, and invited talks.
His recent work focuses on applying practical AI, knowledge graphs, and advanced analytics to support water utilities, smart infrastructure operators, and organisations seeking digital transformation solutions. Dr Milis also serves as a Board Member of the Cyprus Association of Research and Innovation Enterprises (CARIE), contributing to initiatives that strengthen the research, innovation, and entrepreneurship ecosystem in Cyprus and across Europe. At EduSynergy, he helps ensure that the centre's professional development programmes remain grounded in credible, applied research and innovation that organisations can put to work immediately.
